OARE - Research in the Environment

OARE (Online Access to Research in the Environment) is an internet based portal which provides free or low cost access to major scientific and peer reviewed journals, e-books, databases, and other scientific materials in environmental sciences.

OARE was launched in 2006 and is managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in partnership with Yale University and more than 85 publishers. OARE provides access to over 3100 institutions access to up to 8,200 journals, up to 22,000 e-books, and up to 40 other information resources in a wide range of disciplines contributing to our understanding of the natural environment.

  • Increase environment-related policy for the benefit of the population

Eligibility overview:

  • All OARE users may browse collection and journal abstracts without log in.
  • To view, download and print the full-text articles, users must be registered and must login first.
  • Login may only be done by registered institutions.
  • Students, faculty and staff at eligible, registered institutions can access full-text articles and other OARE resources – using their institutions’ password.
  • Visitors to registered institutions can use the resources while at the site.

How to request information

We invite you to explore this facility we provide, and to take advantage of this valuable service that we offer.

Facilities are available to access the OARE database at National Science Library and Resource Centre, National Science Foundation from Monday to Friday (8.30 am – 4.00 pm). Searching and downloading of information is free for research and educational purposes while a nominal fee will be charged for printouts.
